Which facts sound like your situation?

More than one may apply. A country, region, surname or family story by itself is not legal proof.

Your answers stay on this device. If none fits, an exceptional or child-specific route may still require individual review.

How applications work

The common application sequence

The evidence list changes by route, but the published procedure follows the same basic structure.

  1. 01

Identify the exact Citizenship Act article before collecting evidence.

  2. 02

Open the Ministry’s current checklist for that article; requirements and fees can change.

  3. 03

Prepare the Bulgarian-language application and route-specific civil-status, residence, record, income, language or ancestry evidence. Foreign public documents may need legalisation and Bulgarian translation.

  4. 04

Submit personally to the Ministry of Justice in Sofia or a Bulgarian diplomatic/consular mission. An interview is conducted when the application is filed.

  5. 05

Keep the Ministry registration number and PIN private. Use them only on the official portal, and keep your own dated record of every status and request.

The Ministry pages are in Bulgarian. Use the exact Bulgarian heading shown in your route result instead of translating the whole page blindly.
